“One of the most powerful lessons in life is to recognize that no one can give you power, and many people don’t want you to have it. You have to find the courage to seize it, own it and hold on!”
― Shannon L. Alder
I think being competitive will make you not only a better athlete, but a better person. Ask yourself why so many companies hire college Athletes right out of school? These are the people who set a goal, are persistent and fight to make it happen. These are the people who make leaps in their fitness and also personal issues in life. If you’ve ever played a competitive sport then you know what I’m talking about. The reality is that we all grow up and eventually have to stop playing sports, and stop being competitive… or do we? Why not continue to better yourself by competing against the person next to you? Why not aspire to WINNING? Not only does Crossfit keep you in shape, but it gives you that mental edge to want to be BETTER. I personally get my butt kicked everyday in the gym by people who are better than me. But I keep coming back because I want to compete and obtain a level of fitness the same as the people above me. I think if you don’t compete, you aren’t as motivated as you can be. The best part about competing in the gym is that afterwards everyone comes together closer as a community. Since they are going through the same things, you share a bond you can’t find at a ‘regular’ gym. Everyone supports each other more when there is a competitive environment. Stick with it, come in hungry to win and amazing things will happen.
